DETROIT, MICHIGAN — The president of Isaac Agree Downtown Synagogue in Detroit, Michigan, Samantha Woll, was tragically found stabbed to death outside her residence on Saturday. Detroit police have yet to determine a motive for the 40-year-old’s killing and request public patience during the investigation. Police Chief James E. White clarified there was no evidence pointing to the crime being antisemitic, despite ongoing concerns related to the Israel-Gaza conflict potentially spurring violence in the U.S. The FBI has been brought in to assist with the investigation.

Upon responding to an emergency call, officers located a blood trail leading to Woll’s home, where the crime is believed to have occurred. Woll was known for her involvement in Democratic politics, notably working on local campaigns, serving as the political director for Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel during her 2022 reelection bid, and as a deputy district director for Rep. Elissa Slotkin (D-Mich.) from 2019. Both Nessel and Slotkin expressed deep sorrow at the news of Woll’s death.

Woll, known for her commitment to the community and dedication to helping the vulnerable, was an instrumental figure at her synagogue. Recently, she participated in the placement of a mezuza on the synagogue’s newly renovated entryway. The synagogue shared their grief and shock on Facebook, ending with, “May her memory be a blessing.”
