The arctic island of Greenland has “a lot” to offer the United States, but it does not want to be a part of its empire. Prime Minister Mute Egede said that the nation will cooperate with the U.S., but they “do not want to be Americans.”

The incoming Trump administration has already said that it will not rule out taking Greenland by force, if necessary, making war with the island a possibility.

Trump Will Not “Rule Out” Military Action To Take Greenland By Force

In an interview with FOX News on Thursday, Egede addressed Trump’s renewed interest in “acquiring” Greenland from Denmark, citing national security concerns.  “We are close neighbors; we have been cooperating in the last 80 years, and I think in the future we have a lot to offer to cooperate with,” Egede said, insisting that Greenland would always be a part of NATO and “a strong partner of the U.S.”

“But we want to… be clear. We don’t want to be Americans. We don’t want to be a part of the US,” the prime minister emphasized. He said islanders “do not want to be Danes” either. “We want to be Greenlanders,” he added.

Trump Ally Says Plan To Acquire Greenland Is Not “A CRAZY IDEA”

Officials in Denmark have also rejected the possibility of selling the island. “Greenland is not for sale and will not be in the future either,” Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen said earlier this month.

The Arctic island, which has a population of around 57,000, hosts the U.S. Pituffik Space Base, which plays a significant role in NATO defenses due to its strategic location. Should the U.S. military-industrial complex decide to take over the island, there will not be much the ruling class of Greenland or its civilians could do to stop the “acquisition.” It could cause a global geopolitical battle, however, and one that won’t make the U.S. empire look very good on the world stage.

Hopefully, the talk of taking Greenland by force is nothing more than rhetoric from the incoming war-mongering team.
