Citing the fear of civil unrest after the 2024 Election results, numerous states have called up National Guard troops to be on standby through November 7th. Additionally, reports of riot fences being installed around locations in Washington, D.C., as well as around the Vice President’s residence, have fueled the idea that unrest is thought to occur.

Popular YouTuber penguinsix shared a video showing multiple riot fences up — or in the process of being put up — as he drove and walked through the city.

Notably, many businesses in the D.C. area have boarded up doors and windows ahead of the election, in an effort to secure their locations should civil unrest occur.

Election Day is an important opportunity for us all to engage in our civic duties and exercise our voices, but it’s also crucial to prioritize safety and remain vigilant while participating. Whether you’re voting in person or simply going about your day, keep an eye on your surroundings and make responsible choices. Be aware of your voting location, the times it’s open, and any nearby parking restrictions.

For those heading to the polls, remember to keep your personal belongings secure. Large crowds can be an ideal situation for opportunistic theft, so stay alert and avoid leaving items like bags, phones, or wallets unattended. Avoid any unnecessary conversations about how you plan to vote, as discussions about politics can sometimes lead to heated exchanges. If you notice any suspicious activity, such as individuals attempting to intimidate voters or disrupt the voting process, report it to poll workers or local authorities.
