First Look: Springfield Armory 1911 TRP AOS Pistols

by Tommy Grant

Springfield Armory has just announced the optics-ready 1911 TRP AOS series, available in both .45 ACP and 9mm in two different sizes.

Springfield Armory has just upgraded and expanded its 1911 TRP series with eight new models. Based on the Springfield 1911 used by the FBI’s HRT, the 1911 TRP will now be available in 9mm and in an optics-ready configuration with the Agency Optic System (AOS).

Like the originals, the 1911 TRP AOS pistols feature forged frames and slides that are hand-selected for slide-to-frame fit to provide improved precision. They also have match-grade barrels, sighting plane serrations, G-10 VZ Grips and checkered frames for a solid grip.

What’s new is the ability to mount optics using the AOS plate system and the 9mm chambering option. The 9mm variants feature 9-round magazines while the .45 ACP models use the expected 8-round mags, but both ship with a total of three. Also like the original TRP pistols, the 1911 TRP AOS is offered with either a full-size 5-inch barrel or in the Carry Contour (CC) configuration with a 4.25-inch barrel and a forged aluminum frame and beveled grip. Both of those versions are offered in either 9mm or .45 ACP and with either a black or Coyote Brown Cerakote finish, coming to a total of eight versions to choose from.

Steve Kramer, Vice President of Marketing for Springfield Armory, said this about the new 1911s:

The TRP has long been one of the most respected 1911 pistols not only in the Springfield line but also in the broader 1911 community … With these new optics-ready TRP AOS variants and the first TRP pistols in 9mm ever, Springfield Armory is taking a proven classic in an exciting new direction.

1911 TRP AOS pistols are available now and all versions share an MSRP of $1,999.
