CHICAGO, IL (2-minute read) — A 28-year-old concealed carry license holder in Chicago successfully defended himself early Friday morning when two armed men attempted to rob him. The incident occurred around 5 a.m. in the 900 block of South Homan Avenue in the Homan Square neighborhood.

According to police reports, the intended victim was outside when two suspects approached him, pulled a firearm, and demanded his belongings. Acting in self-defense, the legally armed citizen drew his own firearm and exchanged gunfire with the attackers.

One of the assailants, a 42-year-old man, was struck in the head and pronounced dead at the scene. The second suspect, a 20-year-old man, suffered a gunshot wound to the neck and was transported to Mount Sinai Hospital in critical condition.

The intended victim, who holds both a valid Firearm Owners Identification (FOID) card and a concealed carry license, was taken to St. Anthony Hospital for evaluation and was later reported to be in good condition. Authorities recovered two firearms from the scene, and Area Four detectives continue to investigate the case.

This incident highlights the importance of self-defense rights, particularly in areas with high crime rates. While Illinois has strict gun laws, law-abiding citizens with proper permits can legally carry firearms for personal protection. In situations like this, a responsibly armed citizen can mean the difference between life and death.

Safety Tip: If you carry a firearm for self-defense, regularly train on drawing from concealment and reacting under pressure. Mental preparedness is just as critical as marksmanship.
