A rooftop sniper opened fire at a Dallas ICE facility, critically injuring three detainees on Wednesday morning. The shooter died by suicide before being apprehended, and authorities are continuing their investigation.

DALLAS, TX (2-minute read) — An active shooter situation turned deadly on Wednesday morning at a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) facility in Dallas, Texas. Authorities say a gunman, described as a white male, opened fire from a nearby rooftop, striking three detainees held in ICE custody.

Two of those victims have died.

The shooter was armed with a rifle and acted as a sniper, targeting individuals within the secured premises of the facility.

Dallas police confirmed that the suspect died by suicide, shooting himself in the head as federal agents approached his location. The three injured detainees were rushed to nearby hospitals, with police reporting that multiple victims remain in critical condition. Their identities and current medical statuses have not been released.

A heinous act of violence is unfolding in Dallas, where ICE officers have been deliberately targeted by a gunman, possibly a sniper.

Heightened Concerns Over Facility Security

While the motive behind the attack has not been confirmed, the calculated nature of the shooting, including the sniper’s elevated position, has heightened concerns regarding security protocols at federal detention centers. These facilities, typically secured against internal threats, may now face increased scrutiny about their vulnerability to external attacks.

The FBI and the Department of Homeland Security are assisting local authorities in the investigation, which is still in its early stages. Questions remain about how the shooter gained access to a vantage point, whether he had ties to any of the detainees, and what steps can be taken to prevent similar attacks in the future.

Incidents like this serve as a grim reminder that even highly controlled environments can be targeted by individuals intent on causing harm. It’s a stark example of how quickly violence can erupt, and why situational awareness and rapid law enforcement response are critical.

This is a developing story.
