HOUSTON, TX (2-minute read) — A 16-year-old suspect was fatally shot during an attempted armed robbery at a business located at 1570 South Dairy Ashford Road early Monday morning. Houston Police Department (HPD) officers responded to the scene around 5:10 a.m., finding the suspect deceased from apparent gunshot wounds. Paramedics pronounced him dead at the scene.
According to HPD reports, two suspects attempted to rob the business when employees engaged in a shootout. One of the suspects was struck, while the second fled on foot. Fortunately, none of the employees sustained injuries during the altercation.
The identity of the deceased suspect is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences. The case will be presented to a Harris County grand jury for review, as per protocol in such incidents.
Police are still searching for the second suspect and urge anyone with information to contact the HPD Homicide Division or Crime Stoppers. Cases like this highlight the risks employees may face and the critical importance of being prepared to respond to dangerous situations.
The Importance of Self-Defense Training in the Workplace
While the employees were able to defend themselves successfully, self-defense training can significantly enhance preparedness in such scenarios. Businesses in high-risk areas might consider offering workplace safety training, including situational awareness, de-escalation techniques, and firearm safety, to mitigate the potential for violence.
Safety Tip: If you own a firearm for self-defense, practice regularly to maintain proficiency, and always follow the laws governing its use. Situational awareness and de-escalation should be your first line of defense.
