A self-defense shooting at the Sky Vista Commons Apartments left a juvenile suspect and a female bystander injured. The juvenile allegedly fired at an adult male, who then responded in self-defense. Both parties are cooperating with the Reno Police Department’s investigation.


    STEAD, NV (2-minute read) — A self-defense incident Sunday evening at the Sky Vista Commons Apartments in Reno’s Stead neighborhood left a juvenile suspect and a nearby female bystander with non-life-threatening injuries. The Reno Police Department (RPD) responded to reports of gunfire around 8:10 p.m., finding the two individuals wounded and transporting them to the hospital. Both are reported to be in stable condition.

    The altercation reportedly began when a juvenile male attempted to shoot an adult male. Missing his intended target, the juvenile struck a female bystander. Acting in self-defense, the adult male then drew his firearm and shot the juvenile, who remained armed at the time. Both the male target and the juvenile suspect are cooperating with investigators, and RPD has confirmed that no additional suspects are involved, assuring the public that there is no further threat to safety.

    According to reports, one of the injured individuals managed to reach a nearby location to call for help before receiving medical attention. Authorities are still investigating the situation and plan to release further details as they become available.
