Memorial Day Prepper Sales | TruePrepper

by Tommy Grant

Typically, there haven’t been enough sales or compelling deals to put together a Memorial Day sale roundup for survival gear and prepping supplies. Times change, though, and now we have a whole slew of deals to explore that’ll help kickstart your summer preparedness projects.

Memorial Day is on May 26th this year, but sales have already started and a few run through the end of the week. Like most roundups, we’ll keep updating as sales come and go throughout the period, so check back periodically to catch new deals.

Memorial Day Preface

I don’t have an issue with the commercialization of holidays- Christmas, Easter, Presidents Day, July 4, Labor Day- businesses will always use sale periods to drive traffic, and it’s a trend that’s growing and not shrinking.

But Memorial Day is a bit different from my perspective. I’ve seen both sides of the holiday: I was an engineer for a mattress company (mattresses are heavily promoted for Memorial Day sales). I was also a part of the Honor Guard in the USAF and presented at many funerals and memorial events. I’ve struggled to see how selling mattresses at 70% off is honoring the men and women who laid their lives down for our country.

The stark truth is that it doesn’t honor them. We can’t repay them. They died in service to our country, and all we have to give is remembrance. Sure, sales can exist on holidays, but please don’t let marketing blind you to the obligation we owe the young soldiers who have passed on.

We all need to remember them, and try to fathom the sacrifice they made- whether it was winning world wars or keeping the conflicts abroad in Korea, Vietnam, Iraq, Afghanistan, and more.

#10 Can Emergency Food

Augason Farms is the top pick from our best emergency food supplier review, and they are running a bonkers sale on their #10 cans. At first, it doesn’t seem like much: the sale prices are listed on the cans. But the actual sale is an additional 30-50% off the listed sale prices. This sets up some insane deals on their #10 cans, which are perfect for stockpiling shelf-stable food.

Here are some examples of how insane it gets:

  • Buttermilk Biscuits #10 Can – Normally $24, on sale for $13, now 50% off for $6.50!
  • Cheese Powder #10 Can – Normally $48, on sale for $25, now 50% off for $12.50. Plus, this one topped our powdered cheese review.
  • Chicken Fettucine Alfredo #10 Can – Normally $58, on sale for $32, now 50% off for $16.
  • Banana Chips #10 Can – Normally $27, on sale for $15, now 40% off for $9.
  • Potato Shreds #10 Can – Normally $16, on sale for $10, now 40% off for $6.
  • Black Bean Burger #10 Can – Normally $30, on sale for $20, now 40% off for $12.

You can see the cans organized by discount percentage on the Augason Farms Memorial Day Sale page, and see the discounts applied when you add them to the cart. If you order $50 or more, you’ll also get free shipping.

Mountain House is running 50% off of their #10 cans as well, but that is the sale- it doesn’t stack on top of cans already on sale. Still, if you want premium emergency food that ranked the highest in our taste-testing, check out the Mountain House Sale.

Medical and First Aid

Medical supplies are always useful for preppers, and first aid gear is essential for almost every type of survival kit. Picking up medical gear on sale can help you stretch your dollar, either saving money or being more prepared for a wider range of medical issues.

Home Security

House fires and home intrusions are always the first few specific scenarios to prepare for, according to our general risk analysis tool: the Threat List. Those risks increase even more when they are the domino effects of other disasters, emergencies, and SHTF situations.

Home security cameras are seeing low prices and are perfect for monitoring your home while you’re on summer vacation.

Safety supplies are also important for your home, and a few are on sale:

Firearms, Gun Gear, and Ammo

Out of all the manufacturers, vendors, and stores we track, we got the most emails about Memorial Day sales related to firearms. I haven’t noticed the shooting ranges being more active this time of year, so I think they are just jumping on the holiday to drive sales.

The best deals are on the less-expensive brands and models:

Ammo at some low prices (see more at our Ammo Price Tracker):

Accessories are there too:

Wilderness Survival Gear

Even if you don’t consider yourself a ‘survivalist’, survival gear helps address the basic principles of practical survival, usually related to the survival rule of threes.

Whether it’s a bivy bag providing shelter, a water filter to stay hydrated, food rations for calories, or a backpack to hold it all, wilderness survival gear targeting basic survival tenets can be foundational for your preparedness.

The Final Word

With summer around the corner, people are looking to get out and about. Stay safe and avoid becoming complacent with your preparedness. Most of all, please remember the meaning of Memorial Day and take a moment to reflect on the gravity of what those memorialized Americans gave up for us.
